Adventures in Gardening
A bright spot within the pandemic
In partnership with Anoka County and sponsored by the State Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), four women grew fruit and vegetables with the support of their staff. While they got a late start start in 2020 due to shipping complications because of COVID-19, many of the plants flourished.
Together, Kathy, Dawn and Cathy helped build the three raised beds in the backyard while Jean and Maria cheered on. They also installed and planted two counter-height raised beds in the front yard. The four new gardeners, with assistance from their committed support staff, grew tomatoes, rhubarb, cucumbers, eggplant, watermelon, peppers, oregano, basil, rosemary, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.
While they are proud of their accomplishments in the garden this year, they have many ideas of things they would do differently next year. This garden is sure to continue its success for years to come.
